Plaid Love

Hello all! Yet again, I’m opening this post by saying I’m sorry for not posting in so long! I need to work on posting a little more often with what I’m working on! Right now I’m pretty heavily involved in the production of Our Town at UNO. I’m on the makeup crew, and have been changed mostly with helping the ladies put their hair into 1940s styles. I’ve learned a ton and hope to keep improving. This week has been a mess though, because as of Saturday, I’ve been at school every day for rehearsals and productions. I finally cleaned my house and did laundry today, and now I’m heading to Kansas City to see my best friend and to see Kinky Boots! Today my outfit is fall inspired, and I wore it the other day with a braid and felt very Brittany Spears circa Oops I Did It Again. : ) Fall makes me much more adventurous in my fashion, and plaid especially screams Fall to me. I’m excited to start feeling the cold weather and wearing more fall outfits! Details under the pictures! Feel free to comment with your own fall inspiration!

Good morning! I am actually posting more than once every 3 months! Today I was inspired by a “throwback post” on Facebook. Apparently I wore this outfit for my 21st birthday 3 years ago. I am happy to say with the exception of a little fading in the top, the rest of the outfit has survived pretty well : ). Recently (as in the last year or so) I have realized the importance of recycling clothing and avoiding retail stores that are all about “fast fashion.” While everyone loves going into a store and finding a new top for $7, in most cases, that top will last through only a few washes, and will then become garbage. I’ve taken it upon myself to attempt purchasing from secondhand stores more often than not, or re-using clothing that is “out of style” and just vamping it up or calling it vintage. In addition to secondhand stores, I also try to shop local boutiques, which are much pricier, but help small business owners and usually the quality of the clothing is much better than the fast fashion chains. Some great secondhand places to shop in Omaha are Scout, Style Encore, and Plato’s Closet. Scout has a more vintage style, while Style Encore has a more professional, working woman feel, and Plato’s Closet is more of a teenage style. Recently I also found a super cute boutique in Glenwood, IA (about a 30 minute drive from downtown Omaha) called J. Wren. Look them up on Facebook!

That’s enough rambling for today, so here’s my outfit! Thanks for reading!

Good morning! Yet again, I have neglected my blog for far too long! Today I have a picture of yesterday’s outfit, but I also wanted to talk about my summer so far! I am hoping (I always say this) to post a little more often, and maybe start going into some of my costume adventures. We will see : )

First off, yesterday’s outfit:

My next set of pictures are from the Theatre Camp I just helped with at Grace University. The camp was middle school-high school, and the fantastic students at Grace helped show the kids how to properly audition, had set design, makeup design, and costume workshops, and at the end of the weeklong camp, the kids put on a musical review of songs and dancing. I personally put together two costume workshops, one for new incoming kids, and one for returning campers. The following pictures are from our activity, which I called “costume roulette.” I gave the kids a stock character to put together a costume for, and we had to guess who their character was. This led to a great discussion about first impressions, and how important clothing is in determining character. On top of the activity, I also taught the kids how to properly measure for a costume, and basic sewing skills. Overall, I had a fantastic time, and hopefully they did too! : )

Last but not least, I wanted to share a couple adorable pictures of my recent princess adventures. For my birthday, I went to KC to visit my beautiful friend, Christa, who is an actress, a model, and also is a photographer. She did a fantastic mermaid Ariel photoshoot, which I will hopefully share soon! For now, here’s me as Zarina and me as Ariel (with legs). That’s it for this post! More soon! Thanks for reading!

Springtime at last!

Good evening! I just realized I have not posted since November! I am terrible at this whole blog upkeep thing! Since November, I have costumed The Importance of Being Earnest and Pirates of Penzance at Grace University, and have costumed 12 Angry Jurors at Iowa Western. Our production of Othello at Iowa Western, in which I played Emila, also was chosen to perform at KCACTF, a regional theatre festival. Out of about 225 shows submitted, they chose 6 to perform, and we were one of those 6! So that was pretty cool. My next blog post might just have to be photos from all the shows I have been involved in for the last few months! Currently I am rehearsing for Iowa Western’s Dog Sees God, in which I will be playing CB’s Sister, which is super exciting. The script is absolutely incredible, and deals with very relevant issues that are dear to my heart. But enough about me! Here’s my outfit for today, and I might be slightly premature in my celebration of spring, but I hope not! This is such a fun Easter colored outfit, and it’s super simple to slip into and run around all day. Hope to post again soon! Thanks for reading!

Good morning! I have yet another post today, within a week of my last post! Congrats to me! Yesterday was opening night for Othello, and it went fabulously! Here is a link to an article written about the movement and the purpose of the play. Universal Language of Movement Again, if you are in the area, I urge you to call and reserve a ticket, because it is a unique experience that you will hopefully enjoy! Today I had one class, and we watched Romeo + Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Dane. We got to the balcony scene, and now that I understand Shakespeare language, it is so beautiful! I will definitely have to go back and read Romeo and Juliet again. Anyway, enough rambling, here is my outfit, details under the pictures! Everything I bought today was either on sale or bought secondhand, which is proof that even if you are not flushed with cash, you can create cute outfits from thrift stores. Thanks for reading!

Polka Dots and Tulle

Good morning! This past week has been super crazy here at Iowa Western as we are preparing for our Othello opening on Thursday- tomorrow! I am playing Emelia, and we are doing a modern art take on the show, becoming living statues on stage. It is going to be absolutely fabulous, and for those of you in the area, come see us at 7:30 on Nov 3rd, 4th, 5th, 10th, 11th, and 12th! Today I am posting my outfit that I randomly put together this morning. Normally I would not pair a sweater with a fluffy skirt, but I actually super love this look. As long as the sweater isn’t too loose or too thick, so as to loose your shape, this is a lovely way to use a summer skirt, and turn it into a fall outfit. Details under the pics!
